XP Power Intros AML120 External AC-DC Power Supply

New Products Sep 28, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

XP Power plc (Sunnyvale, CA), a provider of ac-dc power supplies and dc-dc converter power solutions, introduced an external 120 W ac-dc power supply that has a power density of 4.9 W/in³. With a typical efficiency of 86 percent at full load and an extended operating temperature of 0 °C to +70 °C, the AML120 is convection-cooled and needs no internal fan, which contributes to its compact size of 6.58 in x 2.56 in x 1.46 in, eliminating noise and improving reliability.

The power supply has a 90 Vac to 264 Vac universal input, and meets EN61000-3-2 and EN61000-3-3. The ac input is via a standard IEC 320/C6 inlet, with the output using a four-pin DIN connector, although non-standard connectors are available for quantities as low as 100 pieces. Automatic over-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection are all standard features. Nine standard, single-output voltages between 12 Vdc and 48 Vdc are offered, each with total regulation of ±5 percent. Total regulation includes initial set accuracy and line/load regulation. Ripple and noise are within 2 percent, peak-to-peak.

The AML120 meets all major safety and EMC specifications, including EN55022/FCC/VCCI Class B for both radiated and conducted emissions. The mean time between failure is greater than 100,000 hours (MIL-HDBK-217F). The AML120 offers economical power conversion from just $0.45 per watt. The units cost $54 each in 1,000-piece quantities, and are available from stock.
