X1, X2 & Y2 Safety Capacitors

New Products May 30, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

NIC Components announced the expansion of its safety capacitors products with three new X and Y class product series of metallized polypropylene film capacitors; NPXF, NPXH and NPT, for use in interference suppression applications. All three new product series utilize metallized polypropylene film with non-inductive and self-healing wound element construction, for stability under ac operation, and safe end-of-life failure mode.

NPXF series of X1 class safety capacitors support higher voltage rating; up to 440-Vac, in capacitance values from 1000pF to 10uF. NPXH series expands upon the established NPX series of X2 class capacitors, with extended capacitance value range from 1000pF to 10uF, higher operating voltage ratings of 300-, 310- and 330-Vac, and reduced case sizes.

Both NPXF (X1) and NPXH (X2) are intended for use as interference suppression capacitors, connected across the ac line and neutral in North America, and L1 to L2 in Europe to suppress differential-mode interference.

New NPYT series of Y2 class safety capacitors cover capacitance range of 1000pF to 0.1uF, in 300Vac voltage ratings, for use connected between Line(L) or Neutral (N) and Ground (G) in North America, and between L-1 or L2 and Ground in Europe, to suppress common mode interference. Y class capacitors protect users from electrical shock potential, so component reliability and safe failure mode are key requirements.

All three series have molded box type construction meeting UL-94V-0 flammability test, feature wide operating temperature range of -40 to +110 degrees C, and have safety agency listings with UL, cUL, ENEC, CQC for use interference suppression applications. All three series are RoHS compliant, meet IEC 60068-1 climatic category 40/110/56 and are supplied in bulk or tape and box (TB) packaging.
