Vishay Intros FX5545G006/106 DC/DC Converters

March 19, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA) released a pair of FunctionPAK synchronous dc/dc boost converters that provide a power density >380W/in³ in a 14.7mm x 12.2mm x 3mm, 20-port, BGA package. The FX5545G006 and FX5545G106 are designed to stabilize rechargeable battery outputs, shift dc voltage levels, filter noise, and reduce ripple in power supplies for end products, including cordless phones, PDAs, portable computers, digital cameras, routers, laser systems, battery backup systems, and low-voltage chipsets.

Each device allows either a single-cell lithium-ion, three-cell nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride battery packs to power multiple loads for power amplifiers, microcontrollers, FPGAs or baseband logic ICs. Both convert input voltages ranging from 2.5V to 6V to low-ripple output voltages ranging from 3.3V to 6V. Output power and maximum current are 7.5W and 1.5A for the FX5545G006, and 10W and 2A for the FX5545G106.

Both the FX5545G006 and FX5545G106 serve as complete dc/dc converter circuits, combining a dc/dc controller, MOSFET switches and up to 18 components in a single compact package. The devices are highly resistant to shock and moisture, and are screened for operation over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range without cooling.
