Vishay Expands its Series of Automotive-grade NTC Thermistors

April 12, 2022 by Gary Elinoff

The new units, announced yesterday, feature R25 values of 1 kΩ and 1.5 kΩ, as well as a 5 kΩ value aimed at IGBT and power MOSFET modules in EVs.

Expanding Vishay’s existing NTCS0603E3…..T and NTCS0805E3…..T series, the fresh thermistors are fully protected by glass coatings and offer tolerances as tight as  ±1% for both their R25 and B25/85 values.

Members of each series are available in 0603 and 0805 case sizes, respectively. Smaller than MELF resistors, the units are both easier to mount and offer greater resistance to bending.

The Complete Series — An Overview

Various R25 Values are Available

  • Both series feature individual thermistors with R25 values starting at ±1 kΩ. The NTCS0603E3 series features units with R25 values of up to 100 kΩ, while values for the NTCS0805E3 units reach 680 kΩ. Individual units within both groups can be chosen with R25 tolerances specced at ±1%, ±2%, ±3% or ±5%.

B25/85 Availabilities

  • B25/85 values in the NTCS0603E3 series range from 3170 K to 4100 K. Corresponding offerings from the NTCS0805E3 series run from 3370 K to 4125 K. The former series sports devices with a B25/85 tolerance of 1%, while the latter includes units with both 1% and 3% tolerances.

Negative Temperature Coefficient (TCR)

  • For the NTCS0603E3 series, TCRs range between -40 ℃ at -7 %/K and -2 %/K at 150℃. The NTCS0805E3 is just slightly different, with TCRs ranging between -40 ℃ at -6 %/K and -2 %/K at 150℃.

Maximum Power Dissipation

  • 125 mW and 210 mW for the NTCS0603E3 and NTCS0805E3 series, respectively

New Series Members

There are a total of 16 designations in both the NTCS0603E3 and the NTCS0805E3 series. Each has either two or four R25 toleration values. The new units are as follows:
