Valere Power Launches Integrated DC Power System

April 06, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Valere Power (Richardson, TX) introduced its new Integrated Power System, an expandable dc power distribution system that cuts power-related costs for remote broadband and wireless telecommunications equipment locations. The system claims to be 50 percent smaller and emits 35 percent less heat than current technology, as well as also reducing energy, cooling, management and maintenance expenses resulting in a cost savings of up to $4,000 for an average location.

The integrated power system converts ac power into either 24Vdc or 48Vdc at up to 600A and manages power distribution to telecommunications equipment and battery-based backup systems. The system offers enough current to power larger remote locations serving up to 5,000 telephone lines, but also offers a one-shelf chassis for use in smaller, high-growth locations that need an expandable entry-level solution.

The integrated power supply is NEBS Level 3 certified and features up to two power shelves and two distribution modules. At 24V, the system offers 300A per shelf (600A total), and at –48V it offers 250A per shelf (500A total). It can support up to five modular power rectifiers per shelf that are redundant and hot-pluggable. It is available in both 19in and 23in rack widths.

The power supply works with Valere’s new V1500B and V2500A rectifiers, which provide 92 percent typical power conversion efficiency, which reduces thermal load and improves the reliability and availability of the system. The V1500B outputs 24Vdc at up to 60A, the V2500A outputs –48Vdc and offers up to 50A of current. The rectifiers are fully redundant and hot-pluggable for replacement or maintenance without any down time.

The integrated dc power system is available for immediate delivery with list prices starting at $3,500.
