V-Infinity Offers New Compact DC Switching Regulator

V-Infinity, a division of CUI Inc., announced the new V78XX-500 series of dc switching regulators. This series is said to have efficiencies of up to 96% and is both pin and function compatible with 78xx linear regulators. Because of this high efficiency, the V78XX-500 series does not require a heatsink, making it suitable for applications where board space is at a premium and a heatsink cannot be used.

The V78XX-500 series measures 11.5 x 7.65x 10.2mm and is housed in a plastic SIP3 case. A wide input range is available from 4.75 to 32Vdc and regulated output voltages of 3.3, 5, 6.5, 9, 12, and 15Vdc are offered. Output current is 500mA with an operating temperature range of -40 to 85°C. The converters offer short circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and low ripple and noise (20mV p-p typ.).

The V78XX-500 series regulators are available now and start at $6.75 in 100 piece quantities.
