UNIPOWER Unveils TWR Series Power Systems

December 17, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

UNIPOWER Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) announced its new TWR Series power systems, designed specifically for powering RF amplifiers, which consist of hot-swap modules in three-unit or four-unit 2RU-high racks. Each module produces 2,250W at 28Vdc to 32Vdc, providing a total of 6,750W for a fully loaded, three-module, 19in system, or 9,000W for a loaded, four-module, 23in system. With hot-swap capability, the systems can be operated in 2+1 or 3+1 redundant modes, producing 4,500W or 6,750W, respectively.

There are five standard models, each factory set to 28V, 29V, 30V, 31V or 32V output, but the output for each model can also be adjusted over the range of 26.5V to 33.5V. The modules have a power density of 10.6W/in³ and are 85% efficient. Other features include input power-factor correction, a Class B EMI input filter, single-wire active current sharing between the modules, and an output OR-ing diode. There are also front-panel ac and dc power-good LEDs together with ac and dc power-good logic outputs, an inhibit input, remote adjustment, thermal alarm and current-monitoring outputs.

The TWR power system is priced separately. Power modules are priced at $870 each. The three-unit, 19in rack, or four-unit, 23in racks are ordered separately and are priced at $509. Delivery is four weeks ARO.
