UNIPOWER Unveils INV5000-230 Inverter

September 30, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

UNIPOWER Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) announced its new INV5000-230 sine wave inverter, which produces 230Vac RMS at 22A (5kVA) in a 2RU-high (3.5in) shelf that mounts in a 19in or 23in rack. Both 50Hz and 60Hz models are available, and the input voltage range is 42Vdc to 56Vdc. The INV5000-230 is suitable for use in telecom installations, electric utility substations, fuel cells and solar panel arrays.

The sinusoidal waveform has less than 2% total harmonic distortion and ±0.1% frequency stability. A microcontroller creates the sine-wave reference and controls the other functions of the inverter. High-frequency, pulse-width modulation with MOSFET and IGBT power semiconductors are employed to achieve 90% efficiency and 4.8VA/in³ power density.

The 5kVA INV5000-230 inverter is priced at $3,970 each in quantities. Delivery time is from two to four weeks ARO.
