UNIPOWER Debuts TRS Series Front-End Power Module

January 23, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

UNIPOWER Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) introduced its new TRS Series of front-end power modules that produce up to 2,500W of dc power at 24V, 28V or 48V. The hot-swap module can be built into any system or can be integrated by using the companion rack that provides space for up to three units in a standard 19in rack that is only 3.5in high. The full system can be operated as a 7,500W, non-redundant front-end, or as a 5,000W, 2+1 redundant front-end. The modules have 11W per cubic inch power density and 85 percent efficiency.

Important operating features include an internal output OR-ing diode in each power module, input power-factor correction, a Class B EMI input filter, single-wire active current sharing between power modules and a ±10 percent output-voltage adjustment range from the front panel. There are also front-panel ac and dc power-good LEDs, together with ac and dc power-good logic outputs; a remote enable input; remote output adjust; and thermal alarm and current-monitoring outputs. The modules have overload and short-circuit protection, zero minimum load, and remote sensing. Each power module is self-cooled by a ball-bearing fan.

The TRS Series 2,500W power module is priced at $1,077 each in OEM quantities, and the 2U, three-position, hot-swap, 19in rack-mount is priced at $420. Delivery is stock to four weeks ARO.
