UNIPOWER Debuts TPCMR1U Power System

July 21, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

UNIPOWER Corp. (Coral Springs, FL) debuted its new 2,400W front-end power system, which features three 800W, hot-swap power modules in a slim, 1U high (1.72in), 19in rack. The back panel has all input and output connections, including separate ac inputs for each module; copper output bus bars; and a 25-pin, subminiature, D connector for control signals. The system is only 11.56in deep, for use in ETSI cabinetry with a maximum depth of 12in. The power system is designed for use in telecom systems, network equipment and other applications that use a 48Vdc or 24Vdc power bus. A 12Vdc output version is also available.

The TPCMR1U power rack holds three hotswap, parallel-connected TPCM Series power modules, which produce 48Vdc at 50A (2,400W), 24Vdc at 87.5A (2,100W) or 12Vdc at 150A (1,800W) in the non-redundant mode. Operating in the 2+1 redundant mode, the system produces 48Vdc at 33.3A (1,600W), 24Vdc at 58.3A (1,400W) or 12Vdc at 100A (1,200W). Other features of the 2,400W front end include a universal input-voltage range of 85Vac to 264Vac; input power-factor correction; remote sensing; a +5Vdc, 250mA standby output; and integral LED status indicators. The system meets the Class B conducted EMI standard.

The complete 2,400W, front-end system consists of a rack with three power modules priced separately. The TPCMR1U Series rack is priced at $415 each, and the TPCM Series power modules are priced at $405 each in moderate volumes. Delivery is stock to four weeks.
