April 30, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Phihong introduced the AC32A 7.7kW EV Charger. The new product introduction follows the company's successful deliveries of EV changer products in Asia and Europe. The AC32A features with UL certification for the North American market. According to Phihong, the AC32 7.7kW charger is compact, lightweight, vibration resistant, and reliable.

The AC32 is suitable for commercial fleet operators, residential, parking lot, gas/service station, EV infrastructure operators and service providers. It is also suitable to meet EV charging requirements for EV dealer workshops.

The charger has a sleek, ergonomic and customizable design. It requires a single-phase 220Vac to 240Vac input and has options for wall-mounting or freestanding operation. An operating temperature range of -30ºC to +50ºC and NEMA Type 3R rating make the AC32 compatible with indoor and outdoor applications throughout North America.

A 5-inch, LCD monitor displays charging status and any charging messages. An optional RFID reader handles charging authorization through the built-in RFID reader accepting ISO/IEC 14443A/B, ISO/IEC 15693, FeliCATM1, NFC and Mifare cards.

A LAN connection is used for standard external communications. Options are also available for Wi-Fi or 4G. The device's internal communications employ the OCPP 1.6 JSON protocol. External communications allow for remote monitoring and management such as troubleshooting, self-diagnosis, charging status feedback, and remote firmware updates for preventative maintenance.

"After the successful launch of our EV chargers in Asia and Europe, Phihong is now moving forward with agency certified products for the US Market. The AC32 is the first of many products to be introduced in this market with future announcements of portable chargers, mobile chargers, and high-power DC chargers coming to the US market in the near future. Early adopters of these technologies such as automobile and truck manufacturers can work with our North American team with early samples of future products releases while agency certifications are completed," said Bill Morrison, Director of Sales and Marketing of Charger Products for Transportation Systems.

Phihong's AC32 products weigh less than 7kg and include a 5-meter charging cable with a standard SAEJ1772 Type 1 Plug/Socket. For automobile manufacturers designing and testing new vehicles for China, special order versions of the AC32 are available with the GB/T charging plug.

The AC32 product is compliant with UL2594 and UL2231-1/-2 and is labeled for installation in locations requiring UL certification for public building permits.

Safety features include over-voltage, over-current, and under-voltage protections on the input and output. Ground-fault protection is provided through lost input ground connection notification.

In addition to providing EV charging solutions, the company supplies power adapters, power supplies, LED drivers, and lighting controllers, as well as Power over Ethernet products.
