Tyco Launches Austin MicroLynx and SuperLynx
Tyco Electronics Power Systems announces the launch of the 12V Austin MicroLynx 5A and 12V Austin SuperLynx 16A, two new series of non-isolated DC-DC converters specifically for 12V input applications. These new modules are targeted at supporting intermediate bus voltage applications as well as distributed power architectures, used to
power the latest generation integrated circuits in computers, telecommunications and networking equipment.
The 12V Austin MicroLynx series modules can convert an input voltage of between 10Vdc to 14.0Vdc to a precisely regulated output ranging from 5Vdc down to as low as 0.75Vdc at load currents up to 5A. The 12V Austin SuperLynx series modules provide the same broad range of output voltages at 16A. All modules are capable of ultra high efficiency levels with up to 94% at 5V out.
The 12V Austin MicroLynx and 16A SuperLynx modules are available in both Single In-Line Packages (SIP) and Surface Mount (SMT) packages. The SIP models are designed for through-hole vertical connections, while the SMT versions are designed for automated assembly techniques.
Overcurrent protection is built into all modules, with 12V Austin SuperLynx modules also offering overtemperature protection. All modules are capable of operating over a -40°F (-40°C) to +185°F (+85°C) temperature range. They also have high reliability, with estimated Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) of 20 million hours at 77°F (25°C) for the 12V Austin MicroLynx series and 10 million hours for the 12V Austin SuperLynx series. All modules utilize open-frame construction.
"The 12V Austin SuperLynx and MicroLynx create greater flexibility for electronic designers needing to work with 12V intermediate bus architectures," said Sabi Varma, vice president, marketing and business operations at Tyco Electronics Power Systems. "We now offer dedicated 5A and 16A options in addition to the 10A option available with the 12V Austin Lynx series for electronic designers seeking to power the latest components while minimizing costs and board space."
The 12V MicroLynx modules are priced at $8.90 in either the SIP or SMT version. The 12V SuperLynx modules are $18.00 in SIP or SMT versions. All prices are based on 1,000 unit quantities. Samples are available now.
