Tyco Electronics Presents Yukon 650 Power System

February 11, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) unveiled the Yukon 650 power system, the first in a new platform of outdoor power to address the expected power requirements of the emerging global switching, DSL and access markets, as well as the outdoor wireless market.

The Yukon 650 can hold up to five 650W constant-power rectifiers and is temperature hardened to withstand a wide temperature range, from -40 to +75 degrees C. The rectifiers are convection cooled and only require a minimum of 100LFM airflow above 50 degrees C while continuing to deliver full output power. The natural convection-cooled rectifier achieves over 90 percent efficiency. The rectifiers also operate from a wide ac input-voltage range, from 85Vac to 275Vac, enabling system designers to standardize on a single rectifier for all global applications.

The Yukon power system is a high-density system at 3U tall, 11in deep, and is available in standard 19in and 23in shelf widths. The shelves are designed for flush mounting; adapters are available for ETSI and mid-mount applications. The 19in shelf can accommodate four rectifiers for a total non-redundant power output of 2.6kW; the 23in shelf can accommodate five rectifiers for a total non-redundant power output of 3.3kW. Its modular design allows up to three shelves to be paralleled and delivers up to 9.8kW of output power. In addition, the power system can be pre-configured to reduce installation costs.

The power system meets NEBS Level 3, UL and CUL listed, VDE licensed, CE marked, and Class B EMI and Zone 4 Earthquake standards. The Yukon 650 is now available worldwide. Pricing is $1,700 each in 100-unit quantities for a standard configuration.
