Tyco Electronics Intros PolySwitch TRF250-180

October 24, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Components (Menlo Park, CA) announced Raychem Circuit Protection’s lead-free, resettable, PolySwitch® TRF250-180 device for telecom and networking applications, which helps provide over-current protection for xDSL modems, splitters and MDF equipment that must comply with ITU-T recommendations. The small footprint, low-resistance, through-hole device features a rated hold current of 180mA, and is suitable for ambient temperatures up to 85 degrees C.

When compared to traditional lightning-robust fuses that hold more than 1A and pass fault currents of 2A or more, the TRF250-180 device limits the let-through energy to a lower level, enabling product designs that utilize less-expensive, smaller, lower-power components. In addition to interrupting potentially damaging power faults, the TRF250-180 device is robust to ITU-T K.20/21/45 lightning surges.

Samples of the TRF250-180 device are now available in tape-and-reel packaging for $0.27 in quantities of 100,000. Delivery is eight weeks ARO.
