Tyco Electronics Extends Onami DC Converter Series

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced extensions to the Onami dc/dc converter series, giving computer and communications equipment OEMs maximum flexibility in designing 5V and 12V power applications. Onami power modules convert a standard 36Vdc to 75Vdc (48V) power input to drive 5Vdc or 12Vdc intermediate bus architectures, fans and other loads. Input redundancy, current monitoring and power-okay signals make Onami modules flexible enough to be used in many different design configurations.

The 5V Onami delivers an 88 percent efficient output at 25A, while the Onami 12V delivers 89 percent efficiency at 10A. Such high efficiency levels enable the converters to be used without the need for additional heatsinks. An active output current-sharing feature allows Onami modules to be used in parallel to create even lower voltage levels.

The Onami series offers maximum reliability, expected to deliver two million hours mean time before failure. In addition, a range of safety features offer protection against high-voltage or temperature extremes. The Onami 5V and 12V modules are compact, measuring just 3.596in x 1.625in x 0.39in (91.08mm x 41.28mm x 9.9mm), suitable for minimizing board space in multi-processor applications.
