Tyco Debuts New HW010 Family of DC/DC Converters

June 10, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced the new HW010 family of dc/dc converters, which enables communications and networking OEMs to minimize board space, reduce production costs and support the ongoing migration toward lower supply voltages for ICs and microprocessors.

The HW010 converters operate over an input-voltage range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc (48V nominal) to provide a precisely regulated output as low as 1.0V. The HW010 takes advantage of synchronous-rectification technology to deliver a typical full-load efficiency of 90 percent at 3.3Vdc. A low profile of just 0.335in (8.5mm) means that the HW010 is suitable for space-saving and tightly packed systems. The HW010 modules are available in a broad range of output voltages: 5.0V at 6.6A, 3.3V at 10A, 2.5V at 10A, 1.8V at 12A, 1.5V at 12A, and 1.2V and 1.0V at 12A. Each model is available in surface-mount and through-hole configurations.

The HW010 modules are capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -40 to +85 degrees C, and incorporate a range of safety features to protect against abnormal inputs, outputs and temperatures. Performance is further enhanced by monotonic start-up and operation into pre-biased loads.

Priced at $39 in 1,000-unit quantities, samples are available now.
