Tyco Adds QRW025 Series DC/DC Converters

August 26, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics Power Systems (Dallas, TX) announced the addition of a 25A series to its QRW range of single-output, industry-standard, quarter-brick, dc/dc converters, the QRW025 Series, which is suitable for powering medium-/high-current, low-voltage microprocessor and IC applications.

The QRW Series modules use synchronous rectification technology and innovative packaging techniques to achieve ultra-high efficiencies of 92 percent at full load. The cost-efficient, open-frame design has a low profile of only 0.38in (9.5mm) on an industry-standard, quarter-brick footprint of 2.28in x 1.45in (57.9mm x 36.8mm). The QRW025 Series operates over an input voltage of 48V nominal (36Vdc to 75Vdc) with a wide variety of output voltages, and delivers 25A at 3.3Vdc, 2.5Vdc, 1.8Vdc, 1.5Vdc, 1.2Vdc and 1.0Vdc. The single-output voltage is tightly regulated, with an adjustment trim of +10/-20 percent.

Other features of the QRW Series include remote output-voltage sensing, over-temperature protection, output over-current protection, over-voltage protection and input under-voltage protection. In addition, all QRW modules offer an optional active load-sharing feature, allowing parallel operation of a series of converters providing a scalable solution both in output voltages and current requirements. The modules can also be equipped with an optional baseplate for attaching a heatsink to enable operation over extended operating ambient temperatures, ranging between -40 to +85 degrees C.

The modules are priced at $69.70 in 1,000-unit quantities. Samples are available now.
