Toshiba Introduces Class D Audio Power Amplifier

Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) announced the introduction of its first Class-D audio power amplifier based on bipolar, complementary metal oxide semiconductor and double-diffused metal oxide semiconductor (BiCD) technology. Designated TB2924FG, the new audio power amplifier is the first member of a new family of Class-D power amplifiers targeted at audio consumer electronics applications, including TV, home audio and portable audio applications.

"The TB2924FG offers a compelling solution for a wide range of audio power applications with its single power supply design, surface-mount package and high-efficiency operation for up to 21W x 2 bridge-tied load (BTL) channels," said David Cruikshank, business development manager for digital consumer products in the ASSP Business Unit at TAEC.

"This new device will enable the creation of smaller, lighter and/or more powerful end products. With TB2924FG, Toshiba has established a high standard of excellence for future products in its Class-D audio power amplifier family."Mr. Cruikshank noted that the new Class-D IC complements Toshiba's family of Class-AB audio power amplifiers.

Pricing and Availability Samples are currently available and the device is in volume production. TB2924FG is priced at $2.00 each in 10,000-piece quantities. For qualified opportunities, Toshiba offers an evaluation board and a reference design with gerber data.
