Taiyo Yuden Announces New NTC Chip Thermistors

February 21, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Taiyo Yuden (Japan) has announced a new series of high-reliability multi-layer chip thermistors. The NTC chip thermistors are 63mW in chip sizes of 0402 and 0603, with values from 47 to 150k Ohm. The chips have a B constant of 2950 to 4750 at 25 to 85 degrees C, dependent upon value.

The new thermistors are based on a multiplayer construction giving a combination of an operating temperature range of between -55 and 125 degrees C, a thermal time constant of less than five seconds and a heat dissipation constant of 1 to 2.5mW/C.

In 1,000-hour reliability tests, Taiyo claims that its technology exhibits change in resistance of less than 1 percent. The chips are suitable for telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics and battery protection.
