SynQor Introduces High-Efficiency DC-DC Converters and EMI Filters

April 03, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

SynQor announced the introduction of its new MilQor® product line of dc-dc converters and complementary EMI filters. These products feature SynQor’s QorSeal™ packaging approach that ensures survivability in harsh environments. They are compatible with the present industry-standard formats, but dissipate only half the heat due to their >90% efficiency levels. The product line addresses both the 28 and 270V power systems, and it complies with a wide range of military standards. The units operate at full power from -55 to +125°C.

The initial offering of MilQor dc-dc converters includes single-, dual- and triple-output configurations, with standard output voltages ranging from 1.5 to 30V. Output power and current levels are as high as 120W and 40A respectively. Features include fixed-frequency switching, no opto-isolators, current sharing, remote sense, clock synchronization, primary- and secondary-side enable, continuous short-circuit protection, input under-voltage lockout and input over-voltage shutdown.

The MilQor EMI filters are available with passive components only, or with additional active circuitry that provides surge/spike suppression, soft start in-rush limiting, reverse-polarity protection, holdup capacitor pre-charging, and enable signal pass-through. They also are available in standard and extended input voltage ranges. All filters provide >80dB of differential attenuation (and >60dB of common-mode attenuation) at 500kHz, and they include stabilizing bulk capacitors and damping resistors. All capacitors are X7R ceramics.

Used together, the MilQor dc-dc converters and EMI filters permit compliance with MIL-STD-704(A-F), RTCA/DO-160-E (Section 16), MIL-STD-1275B, and DEF-STAN 61-5(6/5), as well as with MIL-STD-461(C-E) and RTCA/DO-160E (Section 22; Lightning). They have been designed per NAVSO P-3641A guidelines, with all components derated per MIL-HDBK-1547A. They are qualified to MIL-STD-810F, as well as to SynQor’s internal First-Article (consistent with MIL-STD-883F), Storage-Survivability, and On-Going Life-Test procedures.

SynQor’s QorSeal packaging approach provides a conduction-cooled mechanical assembly around an SMT constructed power circuit that is low-profile, light-weight, and shielded. Its non-hybrid construction has been fully qualified to exacting levels of stress testing in compliance with various military standards. As a result, the MilQor product line will survive the most severe long-term storage and operational environments encountered in military, avionic, and high-reliability applications.

Sample and production quantities are available immediately with a stock to 12 week lead-time.
