SunPower Debuts New Solar Panels and Inverters

New Products Oct 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

SunPower Corp. (Sunnyvale, CA), a silicon solar-cell company and a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp., debuted two new high-efficiency inverters at Solar Power 2005, the inverters are rated at 4,600 W (208 V) and 5,200 W (240 V). They complement and expand existing SunPower inverters rated at 2,000 W (120 V), 2,900 W (208 V), and 3,200 W (240 V). Each model is designed and tuned specifically to match the electrical characteristics of the company's high-efficiency solar panels, thereby maximizing system energy production all year long.

All of SunPower's inverters, which convert the electrical energy generated by the solar panels into the type of electricity used in homes, meet or exceed the highest efficiency rating in their class as reported by the independent testing program developed by the California Energy Commission. The devices are highly reliable, with no fans or thermal derating, and carry a 10-year standard product warranty. The products are available to the company's North American customers as part of a fully engineered, high-performance system solution.

"SunPower's new inverters will meet the needs of customers seeking larger solar systems," said SunPower CEO Tom Werner. "SunPower inverters are optimized for use with our high-efficiency solar panels, enabling customers to maximize the amount of solar energy from their rooftops each day."
