STMicroelectronics Inc. (ST, Geneva, Switzerland) announced four new industry-standard microprocessor reset chips, the STM809, STM810, STM811 and STM812, intended for high-volume, cost-sensitive, micro-processor-based applications, including computers, servers, printers, fax machines, cellular and GSM phones, and consumer products. The reset circuits are supervisory devices that are commonly used to monitor the microprocessor supply voltage, and to generate a reset signal if that voltage falls below tolerance.

The STM809, STM810, STM811 and STM812 devices are designed to provide precision monitoring of 3V, 3.3V and 5V supply voltages, and each is available with one of five nominal voltage thresholds, from 2.63V to 4.63V. They also provide power-on reset when system power is first applied, and two of them (STM811 and STM812) include a manual push button reset input that requires no additional debounce circuitry.

The STM809 and STM810 are three-pin devices in SOT23-3 packages, while the four-pin STM811 and STM812 use the SOT143-4 package. All are specified for operation over the –40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range, are supplied on tape and reel, and use the company’s ECOPACK lead-free technology. Samples are available now, with production quantities in December 2003. Pricing for the STM809 and STM810 is $0.015 per 100,000 units, and $0.020 per 100,000 units for the STM811 and STM812.
