Sipex Corp. (Milpitas, CA), a provider of high-performance, analog integrated circuits, announced its new SP7650, which joins the SP7652 and SP7655 in the company’s new PowerBlox™ family of high-current, high-voltage, ultra-miniature dc-dc buck regulators. The SP7650 is suitable for a wide variety of applications such as cable modems, set-top boxes, DSL, LCD monitors and plasma televisions.

The SP7650 is a cost-effective 300 kHz, 3 A step-down regulator capable of handling up to 28 V input and delivering output voltages as low as 0.8 V. The SP7650 performs with over 95% efficiency, and features a wide input-voltage range of 2.5 V to 28 V. Other device features include programmable soft start, over-temperature protection, dual under-voltage lock-out thresholds, and short-circuit protection.

The SP7650 samples are available now. The part is rated over the industrial temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, and is housed in a 7 mm x 4 mm DFN package with three independent heatsinks. Pricing for the SP7650 begins at $1.99 in 10,000-piece quantities.
