Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), an 80.4-percent-owned subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA), has released the first three ESD-protected devices in its lead-less ChipFET power MOSFET series, the Si5461EDC, Si5463EDC and Si5465EDC. The new p-channel devices, which occupy a footprint measuring 3.05mm x 1.8mm, are suitable for use in SIM cards, Bluetooth adapters, IrDA adapters, MP3 adapters and cable connections to other portable equipment.

Designed to minimize conduction losses, the new ChipFETs feature low on-resistance. All three devices are rated for operation at 2.5V and 1.8V. Maximum current handling ranges from -5.1A to -7.0A, depending on gate-source voltage. The maximum ChipFET thermal resistance is 20 degrees C per watt. Typical applications will include load switching; battery-charger switching; and power amplifier switching in cellular phones, PDAs and other portable devices.

Samples and production quantities of the Si5461EDC, Si5463EDC and Si5465EDC are currently available, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing in 100,000-piece quantities starts at $0.32.
