Silicon Mechanics Announces Dynamic Power Calculation

New Products May 10, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Silicon Mechanics, Inc. announced support for automatic power usage calculation in its system configurator application for servers. This feature, which the company claims is an industry-first, dynamically calculates the power usage for Silicon Mechanics’ servers while users interact with the system configurator choices.

"We are excited to deploy an application that encourages energy conservation in datacenter operations," said David Bryan, President, Silicon Mechanics. "Our power calculator allows a customer to interactively estimate the energy efficiency of their intended server model and quantify how a given server compares with other servers from our product line. We hope that this application can help users seeking to reduce power consumption and operating costs in datacenters everywhere."

The power calculator function is a dynamically updating display of Watts, Volt-Amperes, Amps, and BTU/hr. It is currently available on Silicon Mechanics Intel® Xeon® Processor-based servers. Silicon Mechanics states that it will expand this feature’s availability to all of its most popular servers within the next month.

All systems are available for immediate purchase and delivery.
