Semtech Intros SC2643VX+SC1211 Power Chipset

New Products Nov 24, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. (Camarillo, CA) introduced its new Vcore power chipset, a power supply conversion solution capable of powering both Intel's® and AMD's™ advanced microprocessors. The chipset represents the first product in a new line of configurable Vcore power solutions incorporating Semtech's patented Combi-Sense™ topology.

The new configurable Vcore SC2643VX+SC1211 power chipset comprises the SC2643VX scalable, multi-phase, dc/dc controller and the SC1211 high-speed MOSFET driver. The chipset converts a 12V main supply into accurate core supply voltages required by next-generation desktop microprocessors. The new chipset provides on-the-fly processor voltage identification code sensing, setting Vcore output voltages automatically. Output-signal phase relationships are programmable for two-, three- or four-phase operation.

The SC2643VX+SC1211 chipset is rated for commercial temperature range applications (0 to 85 degrees C). The SC2643VX is available in 24-pin SOIC or 24-pin TSSOP packages, while the SC1211 MOSFET drivers come in SO-8 packages. Samples are available now, with production quantities available in December 2002.
