Semtech Introduces Small Dual 300mA LDO Linear Regulators

July 18, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Semtech Corp. announced the SC560, a family of small, dual-output low dropout (LDO) linear regulators for Lithium-ion battery-powered designs such as mobile phones. The SC560 devices measure 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.6mm (MLPQ-UT-8) and feature a dropout of only 200mV maximum at a current of 200mA per output. The SC560 devices are optimized for battery-powered applications with a low 100µA quiescent current (both outputs enabled), and a 0.1µA shutdown current. The input voltage range for all devices is 2.5 to 5.5V.

There are eight devices in the SC560 family, each distinguished by their output voltages and pin options. Three devices – the SC560A, B and C – have adjustable output voltages on both LDOs, ranging from 1.2 to 3.3V. The SC560A also features a low-noise bypass, the SC560B offers a second LDO enable pin and the SC560C comes with a power good pin with 200ms delay.

The five other parts (SC560D, E, F, G, H) offer combinations of fixed voltage outputs for specific applications, ranging from 1.5 to 3.3V. Each of these devices is fully featured with individual enable capabilities for each LDO, a low noise bypass and power good output with 200ms delay that can be used for system reset. Please consult the factory for other voltage combinations. The devices also provide protection circuitry such as current limiting, under-voltage lockout, and thermal protection.

"The SC560 gives designers all that they expect in a state-of-the art LDO regulator while requiring only 40% of the board space of competitive alternatives," said Karl Volk, Semtech Marketing Director, Handheld Power. "With dual 300mA output capability, low dropout, low noise, two enable pins, a PGOOD timer for microprocessor power-on-reset, and tiny size, the SC560 matches or exceeds the requirements for most mobile applications."

The SC560 products are available immediately in production quantities and are priced at $0.40 each in 1,000-piece lots.
