Schaefer Unveils C4500 Series DC-DC and AC-DC Converters

Schaefer Inc. (Ashland, MA) unveiled its new C4500 Series of 1,600 W, 6U high, VME/Eurorack–compatible dc-dc and ac-dc converters. Applications include locomotive controls and communications equipment, telecommunications systems, process control systems, and power stations.

The C4500 Series is available in nine standard dc input-voltage ranges from 10 Vdc to 900 Vdc as well as ac input-voltage ranges of 185 Vac to 264 Vac and 93 Vac to 138 Vac/185 Vac to 264 Vac (switchable). Three-phase ac input voltages of three by 400 Vac (320 Vac to 460 Vac) and three by x 480 Vac (400 Vac to 530 Vac) are also available. Units can be supplied with an external power-factor correction module. Single outputs are available in 12 ranges from 4.5 Vdc to 400 Vdc. All outputs are adjustable and fully regulated to 0.2 percent or better (load) and 0.1 percent (line). All units in the C4500 Series have remote sensing, over-voltage protection, and current-limit protection on the output. Achieved efficiencies are up to 90 percent. Operating temperatures available include -20 °C to +75 °C and -40 °C to +75 °C.

The units are packaged in a 6U x 21TE x 306 mm Eurorack module and incorporate DIN 41612 H15 I/O connectors. Options include decoupling diodes for parallel operation, ruggedization, inhibit, power fail/dc-ok, system reset, active-current sharing, and wall mounting. Mechanical and electrical modifications to standard modules are readily available upon request. In addition, Schaefer can design and manufacture custom solutions.
