April 03, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Potrans Electrical Corp. (Irvine, CA), a global manufacturer in power conversion products, developed a 5W universal charger that is small, lightweight and affordable. To meet the demands of the portable electronic device industry, the 5W charger is only one-third the size of a credit card, measuring 2.28in x 1.26in x 1.14in, and weighing less than 2.7oz. The charger works with applications such as mobile phones, MP3 players and other small electronic devices.

The new 5W charger comes with over-current, over-voltage, over-load and short-circuit protection, and protects the product under those conditions. The power consumption is less than 0.3W at any input condition under the no-load, stand-by stage. The leakage current is less than 0.15mA at an input voltage of 250Vac/60Hz. The universal adapter meets FCC Part 15, Class B; CISPR 22 class B: and EN55024 industry standards. Currently the available output voltage is 5V and 6V.
