PDUs Feature Touch-Screen Displays and Simplify Data Center Provisioning

October 22, 2019 by Paul Shepard

Gateview Technologies, a technology company focused on IT power distribution for data centers, today announced the availability of its next-generation, rack-mount power distribution unit (PDU), the PowerLOK. The new single- and three-phase rack PDU keeps servers running efficiently and at a lower cost compared to traditional legacy power strips offered on the market today.

In partnership with Power Distribution, Inc, Gateview will display PowerLOK at 7×24 Exchange’s Fall 2019 Conference, October 27-30, 2019, Phoenix, AZ (Booth #1 and 1C).

“Gateview is building a better rack-mount PDU from the inside out,” said John Day, Founder and CEO, Gateview. “Our rigorous engineering, design, testing, and manufacturing processes are created from hands-on research and direct PDU user feedback to ensure that the PowerLOK provides higher reliability and more efficient operations for mission-critical facilities.”

In its first release, PowerLOK will offer 20- and 30-Amps, with expanded product lines offered in 2020. The PDU’s unique, innovative customizations include:

  • Patent-pending CordLOK, cord-locking system for easy insertion, retention, and detachment of plugs into the receptacles with a single hand.
  • Machine-soldered connections from the line cord to the receptacles to eliminate the need for less reliable, fast-on insulation displacement connectors or hand-soldered terminations.
  • A touchscreen display to monitor outlets on the group level and a swipeable display that helps eliminate the need for external, mechanical push buttons.

“Server rack configurations are constantly changing to better meet cybersecurity, storage and workload needs,” said Alan Turner, Vice President of Global Sales, PDI. “Adding new devices to the rack also means power adjustments and the need to constantly swap-out PDUs. The new PowerLOK PDU dramatically simplifies the ‘swapping out’ process while offering a connectivity density to preserve the power strips’ useful life. We are excited to bring these innovations to 7x24 Exchange Fall Conference and look forward to the attendees’ feedback.”

PowerLOK is currently available and can be purchased by contacting Gateview sales. Future orders may be placed via Gateview’s pending online configurator.  The self-directed customization tool will allow customers to build their rack PDU from a range of tens of thousands of standard options and a custom portal will generate a detailed CAD model, specification sheet, and a quote.
