ON Semi Announces CS9201/CS9202 LDO Regulators

November 05, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor (Phoenix, AZ) has unveiled two new micropower LDO regulators with on-board NOCAP technology. NOCAP technology is designed for applications with slow-switching or steady loads and internally compensates load and line variations over temperature without the need for a capacitor. The two new LDOs operate best in slow-switching or static-load applications to replace traditional LDOs that require external load capacitors to maintain stability.

ON Semiconductor claims that both the 5Vout CS9201 and the 3.3Vout CS9202 consume 450mA of quiescent current while delivering precision outputs to within 2 percent, provides a full 100mA of current, withstands peak transients of up to 74V, and features 600mV LDO. Both products offer reverse-voltage protection, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown and input over-voltage shutdown.

ON Semiconductor cites cost and space savings as major benefits of these two new LDOs. They also claim a smaller bill-of-materials, a more stable output and a simplified board layout design as advantages.

The new LDOs come in fused eight-lead SO narrow packages, and further technical specifications for both products are online.
