National Semiconductor Intros LP2996 Regulator

New Products Dec 08, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

National Semiconductor Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) announced its new LP2996 linear, double data rate, (DDR) memory termination regulator, which eliminates switching noise, improves signal integrity and reduces the total system cost by up to 60 percent, accelerating the adoption of DDR in power sensitive, multiple notebook computer applications.

The LP2996 meets the JEDEC Stub Series Termination Logic specifications for DDR bus termination, and is capable of sinking and sourcing 1.5A continuously. The regulator features on-chip thermal protection, a shutdown pin, a reference output for chipsets and DIMMS, a sense pin for enhanced load regulation, and independent inputs for power (PVin) and analog (AVin) rails.

The LP2996 linear regulator is available now in small outline (SO-8), and leadless, lead-frame packages, priced at $0.90 each in 1,000 units. The LP2996 is also available in a power SO-8 package at $0.92 each in 1,000 units.
