National Semi Intros LP38690/38691/38692/38693 Regulators

March 01, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

National Semiconductor Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) introduced its LP38690, LP38691, LP38692 and LP38693 low dropout CMOS linear regulators. Applications for the linear regulators include hard disk drives, notebook computers, battery-powered devices and portable instrumentation.

The LP38690 and LP38692 are designed for load currents of up to 1 A, while the LP38691 and LP38693 are tailored for load currents of up to 500 mA. The LP38692 and LP38693 offer an enable option that allows the designer to enable or disable the device, saving on current draw. In shutdown mode, the device draws a maximum of 1 µA. In addition, the LP3869x family has a low-quiescent current of 100 µA regardless of load current, input voltage and operating temperature.

The entire LP3869x family is available in the six-lead LLP® package. In addition, the LP38690 and LP38691 are offered in a three-lead TO252 package, and the LP38692 and LP38693 are offered in a five-lead SOT23 package. Depending on package selection, prices for 1,000-unit quantities range from $0.40 to $0.50.
