Murata Adds to its Broad Line Of DC-DC Converters with Three New Series

June 04, 2021 by Gary Elinoff

The three new series combine high efficiency, small size, low emi and low noise

The new units offer output currents ranging from 0.5 to 20 amps, augmenting the company’s existing catalog of 245 non-isolated DC-DC converters.

Murata’s new lines of non-isolated DC/DC converter were designed with the needs of distributed power architectures in mind. The UltraBK, MonoBK, and PicoBK series were conceived to take up as little board space as possible, and yet to also offer high efficiency, low EMI and decreased noise.

The MonoBK Series

The existing MonoBK series has been expanded to include the MYMGK-H line. All members listed here are buck converters providing a settable output voltage from 0.7 to 1.8V. They switch at 500 kHz. These units are able to operate at high internal temperatures through a structure that enables heat to dissipate through the module’s substrate.

Input Voltage Output Current (max) Efficiency Line regulation Load regulation No load input current
MYMGK1R820ERSR-H 8 to 15 volts 20 amps 87.8% ±1.5% ±1.0% 50 mA
MYMGK1R820FRSR-H 4.5V to 8 volts  20 amps 89.2% ±3.0% ±1.0% 100 mA
MYMGK1R812ERSR-H 8V to 15V 12 amps 90.4% ±1.5% ±1.0% 50 mA
MYMGK1R812FRSR-H 4.5V to 8 volts  12 amps 92% ±3.0% ±1.0% 100 mA

They feature a power good signal and offer over current and thermal protection and operate over a -40 to +105℃ temperature range.  They are RoHS compliant and they are available in 9 x 10.5 x 5.6mm SMD packages

The UltraBK line

The new UltraBK line including the MYTNA and MYTNC series are available in an ultra-thin 10.5 x 9.0 x 2.1 mm package. They feature a two stage architecture system and integrate Murata’s charge pump technology. Buck and charge pump switching frequencies are 1000 kHz and 1 MHz, respectively.

All units described in this section work with input voltages of 8 to 14.4 volts, and here too, the settable output voltage range is from 0.7 to 1.8V. Line and load regulation are ±1.0%, and no load current is 25 mA. Efficiency is 90% or better

Examples of the UltraBK line include:

  Output Current (max) I2C
MYTNA1R84RELA2RA 4 amps No
MYTNC1R84RELA2RA 4 amps Yes
MYTNA1R86RELA2RA  6 amps No
MYTNC1R86RELA2RA 6 amps Yes

The PicoBK Series

The PicoBK Series are low-power devices integrating an inductor and a control IC. They are intended for applications, including wearables, where space is tight. To save battery energy, these tiny modules feature low quiescent currents

Examples include:

Input Voltage Output Voltage Output Current (max) Efficiency

Applications

The wide range of acceptable input voltages and available output currents along with the low output voltages these devices offer make them well suited for applications such as communications, servers, and 5G.
