MTL-Relcom launches the F800 family of fieldbus power systems

MTL-Relcom has launched the F800 family of fieldbus power systems. The F800 redundant fieldbus power system provides redundant power conditioning for fieldbus network segments and facilitates the connection of redundant input power supplies. Users can select from the widest range of available power options ranging from single-segment (FPS-I) through four-segment (F600 series) and now eight-segment (F800 series) redundant power systems.

All systems are fully 'hot-swappable' meaning that individual power conditioning modules and input power supplies can be replaced without interrupting power or communication on the fieldbus segment. An alarm circuit provides warning in case of a power conditioning module or input power supply failure, and the system is designed so that power for several fieldbus segments can be provided from a single cabinet with minimal wiring.

With up to 50% space saving over existing fieldbus power supplies, the highest levels of system availability are achieved by eliminating all single points of failure. Savings in hardware overhead allow the F800 to provide redundant fieldbus power for the same cost as previous generation "simplex systems," so redundancy essentially comes for free.

A key feature of the F800 Series is a network monitoring option. This allows the F800 to continuously monitor the health of installed fieldbus segments. This capability can speed-up the fault finding of errant networks, providing valuable information on the health of the physical layer. Parameters measured include segment voltages, signal levels of all devices and noise in three bands. Fieldbus-to-shield short circuits and improperly terminated wiring are also indicated.

The F800 Series power supplies are available in a wide variety of formats for easy integration into leading fieldbus control systems. The F800 can be integrated with Yokagawa Centum CS3000 and Honeywell Experion/PKS architectures using standard system cables. Conventional cabling techniques can be used for Emerson Delta V and other carrier-based installations.
