Microsemi Debuts SRM4010 Rectifier Module

November 10, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Irvine, CA), a leading manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and power management integrated circuits, announced that its Broomfield Colorado Division has introduced the industry's first synchronous rectifier module for isolated power supplies. Designated the SRM4010™, the new module is rated at 40A and is designed for isolated power supplies requiring an output voltage of 1V to 5V, typically found in telecom equipment, mainframe computers, servers, desktop computers and automotive systems.

By connecting directly to isolation transformer secondary windings, the SRM4010 module is fast and easy to install. A proprietary timing control prevents cross conduction and minimizes MOSFET body diode conduction. A patented control, called Predictive Timing PLUS™, allows the SRM4010 to operate under any operating condition, such as current-mode or voltage-mode control and hot-load swapping. It adapts automatically to continuous and discontinuous load current conditions. While designed for single-ended or double-ended forward topologies, the SRM4010 can be adapted for higher-current output in a parallel configuration. Future modules will focus on other topologies, higher voltages ratings, and both lower and higher operating frequencies.

The SRM4010 module, priced at $17.43 for 1,000 pieces, comes in a 0.8in x 0.8in x 0.28in, high-current, isolated, surface-mount package featuring a low thermal resistance of 0.35°C/W, and ultra-low inductance/resistance connections.
