Micrel Launches SY88982 Power Driver IC

May 16, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Micrel Inc. (San Jose, CA) launched a new 2.7 Gbps high-current, low-power laser driver, the SY88982 IC, which offers 2.4 V minimum laser compliance voltage for high-current, dc-coupled applications for metro area networking, local area networking and storage area networking telecom and datacom markets.

The SY88982 is a 3.3 V, 2.7 Gbps chip offering 2.4 V minimum voltage and a high modulation current up to 90 mA. It is available in the small form factor, 16-pin, and 3 mm x 3 mm MLF™ lead-free packaging. It is suitable for multi-rate local area networking and metro area networking applications, and the IC requires fewer components because of dc-coupling capability and consumes less power due to the lower supply current.

The SY88982 IC is available in volume and pricing starts at $5.50 for 1,000-piece quantities.
