Micrel Launches New MIC2296 DC Boost Regulator
Micrel Inc. (San Jose, CA), a developer of IC and Ethernet solutions, launched the new MIC2296, an efficient dc-dc boost converter that provides up to 34 V, allows for more than 1.2 A of switch current, and delivers a high-power density in a small packaging option. The MIC2296 is suitable for driving OLEDs, TFT-LCD displays, and WLED camera flashes, and is especially suited for demanding portable consumer electronics applications.
The MIC2296 is a high-power, density boost regulator for use in a wide variety of electronic applications. It can step up input voltages from 2.5 V to 10 V, to generate an output voltage up to 34 V. The MIC2296 provides five percent more efficiency than 1.2MHz MIC2295. The IC features a proprietary internal compensation technique that allows the output capacitor to shrink by more than 50 percent. It also offers output over-voltage protection, less than one percent line and load regulation, 1 µA shutdown current, and transient response.
The MIC2296 is currently available in volume with prices starting at $1.31 for 1,000-unit quantities.
