March 14, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

The new MIC5270 from Micrel Semiconductor (San Jose, CA) is a negative low-dropout regulator housed in the SOT-23-5 package. Intended for battery-operated equipment, the device can supply up to 100mA. The MIC5270 also provides a low quiescent current of 80uA. Current limit and thermal shutdown capabilities are included, as well as a -20V (maximum) input voltage range to ensure that the part will survive power supply spikes. Prices start at $1.22 in quantities of 1,000.
