Maxim Offers Combinable, Dual, Quick-PWM Graphics Core Controllers For Notebook Computers

March 26, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products introduced the MAX17007A/MAX17008 dual, synchronous, step-down, switch-mode power-supply (SMPS) controllers. These devices utilize Maxim’s proprietary, constant on-time, Quick-PWM architecture to support wide input/output voltage ratios, while maintaining a relatively constant switching frequency. This blend of flexibility and performance makes the MAX17007A/MAX17008 well suited for GPU cores and I/O power generation in battery-powered systems.

The two SMPS controllers can also be combined to operate as a two-phase, high-current, single-output GPU core regulator for powering the high-performance GPU engines used in gaming machines and media center notebooks.

The MAX17007A/MAX17008 are available in a space-saving, 4 x 4mm, 28-pin TQFN package, and are fully specified over the -40 to +85°C extended-industrial temperature range.

Prices start at $3.85 (1000-up, FOB USA).
