Maxim Integrated Products Introduces the MAX1806 LDO Regulator
Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) introduced the MAX1806 LDO linear regulator, which is claimed to be the first LDO regulator to deliver output voltages as low as 0.8V at up to 500mA, guaranteed. The new thermally enhanced package looks like a standard 1.1mm-high uMAX package, but is capable of dissipating 1.3W. The MAX1806 is intended to power the new and future processors with low core voltages that are used in hand-held computers and communicators.
The MAX1806 operates from a 2.25V to 5.5V supply and delivers its 500mA load current with 175mV dropout. Its +/-one-percent accurate output voltage is preset at an internally trimmed voltage, or can be adjusted from 0.8V to 4.5V with an external resistive divider. An internal PMOS pass transistor allows 210uA of supply current. Other features include an active-low; power-OK output; a 0.02uA shutdown mode; short-circuit protection; and thermal shutdown prtoection.
The MAX1806 comes in a 1.3W, eight-pin, power-uMAX package with a metal pad on the underside of the package.
