Maxim Integrated Products Introduces MAX1832 through MAX1835 DC/DC Converters

March 13, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) introduced the MAX1832 through MAX1835 step-up dc/dc converters. The new series feature SOT-23 packaging and have integrated reverse-battery protection to protect the battery, the converter and the system in the case of an accidental reversal of battery polarity. They also include a built-in synchronous rectifier. The devices use 4µA quiescent supply current, and less than 1µA in shutdown.

The new devices operate from an input voltage of 1.5V to 5.5V and deliver up to 150mA load current at up to 90 percent efficiency. The MAX1832 and MAX1834 have adjustable outputs from 2V to 5.5V. The MAX1833 and MAX1835 have fixed 3.3V outputs. In shutdown, the protection switch is closed in the MAX1834/1835 and the output voltage equals the input voltage, minus a 0.7V diode drop. When the MAX1832/1833 is in shutdown, the protection switch is open and the input battery can be used as the system backup battery.

All of the new devices are screened for the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees C. Prices start at $1.52 each.
