Magnetek Intros 2,000W Compact Energy Station

New Products Oct 22, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

The Power Electronics Group (PEG) of Magnetek Inc. (Chatsworth, CA), a leading manufacturer of power conditioners for commercial fuel cells, announced the release of its 2,000W Compact Energy Station. The new 2U x 10.8in, full-featured power system has fan-assisted cooling of the rectifiers with left-to-right air flow, which eliminates the need to leave open space above and below the system, reducing the required rack space. In addition, all equipment is front-accessible, making it suitable for use in cabinets and other space-restrictive environments.

The 48V energy station provides up to 1,500W/+500W redundancy in a 2U x 19in, rack-mount package. Up to four hot-pluggable and hot-configurable 11A rectifiers provide the flexibility to expand the power system in 500W, 1,000W and 1,500W increments. It includes an easily programmable control and communications module with advanced battery management capability. Thermally optimized design allows operation at a wide temperature range of -20°C to +55°C, providing reliability in remote applications such as wireless base stations, roadside terminals and remote switching cabinets. The flexible design is compatible with a wide range of input voltages, and allows operation with or without batteries. Available with an output distribution module that includes six channels and back-side connectors for a complete power system solution.

Evaluation units of the new models are available in six weeks, with production quantities available eight weeks ARO. Pricing for the 2,000W Compact Energy Station Series is $1,950 in OEM quantities.
