LTC Offers New LTC1867 Multichannel ADC

June 01, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) introduced the LTC1867, a 16-bit, eight-channel, 200 ksps, analog-to-digital converter (ADC) offering low power without compromising speed or linearity. The LTC1867 draws 1.3 mA at full speed. The supply current automatically drops at reduced speeds, typically to 750 µA at 100 ksps and 200 µA at 10 ksps. The LTC1867 is suitable for low-power applications such as portable instrumentation, industrial process control and medical applications.

The LTC1867 offers an easy-to-use multiplexer and serial interface. The multiplexer allows any combination of single-ended inputs or differential inputs in either unipolar (0 V to 4.096 V) mode or bipolar (±2.048 V) mode. The accuracy of the ADC is independent of the shift clock frequency, allowing the parts to operate in opto-isolation or very low-power applications.

The LTC1867 also comes in a 12-bit version, the LTC1863. Both are available in SSOP-16 packages offering a pin-compatible family for performance/cost optimization in end products. The LTC1867 and LTC1863 are available in the commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Pricing begins at $7.75 each for the LTC1867 and $3.85 each for the LTC1863 in 1,000-piece quantities.
