LTC Announces LTC3459 Synchronous DC Converter

May 16, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced its new LTC3459, a 10 V synchronous-boost, dc-dc converter with onboard output disconnect and inrush current limiting packaged in a ThinSOT™ package. It operates from an input voltage of 1.5 V to 5.5 V, making it suitable for single-cell, lithium-ion or multi-cell, nickel-metal hydride, alkaline applications, as well as general-purpose, fixed-rail systems.

It is also well suited for "keep-alive" battery backup systems that are required to deliver milliamps of current to rails as high as 9 V when the main battery is being replaced. With a 5 V input voltage, the LTC3459 can generate 8 V at 30 mA. The LTC3459 Burst Mode® operation uses only 10 µA of quiescent current, maximizing battery run time. The LTC3459's ThinSOT package allows a compact solution footprint and profile (<1 mm).

Pricing for the LTC3459 starts at $1.95 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
