Linear Technology Debuts LT1946A DC/DC Converter
Linear Technology Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its new LT1946A step-up dc/dc converter, which features a switching frequency of 2.7MHz, allowing the use of a 1.5µH inductor, thereby enabling the entire package to measure <1.1mm. The device incorporates a 1.5A, 36V internal switch and operates from an input-voltage range of 2.6V to 16V. It can generate output voltages up to 34V and currents of 430mA at 8V from a 3.3V input, making it suitable for large TFT-LCDs.
The LT1946A uses a constant frequency, current-mode control scheme to provide line and load regulation. Loop compensation can be either internal or external, giving the user flexibility in setting loop compensation and allowing transient response with low-ESR ceramic-output capacitors. Soft-start is controlled with an external capacitor, which determines the input-current ramp during start-up.
The LT1946A is available in a thermally enhanced eight-lead MSOP housing. Pricing starts at $2.50 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
