New Products Jan 12, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Lambda EMI Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced the new Genesys 1U, 1.5kW, programmable, switching power supply, which accepts a single-phase input from 85Vac to 265Vac and delivers an output that ranges to 600V, 200A. The rack-mount power supply is also available with a 750W rating. Designed for ATEs and industrial and communications applications, the device features an active power-factor correction of 0.99 at full load to assure operation in difficult ac environments and meet European EMC requirements.

The front panel provides control through encoders selectable for fine or coarse adjustment, and four-digit voltage and current meters. Also included are adjustable over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout, current foldback, output on/off and local/remote selection. Other safety features include safe-start and last setting memory. The Genesys 1U has a standard, embedded, 16-bit RS232/RS485 digital interface, which allows up to 31 power supplies to be controlled in a daisy chain over the RS485 line. Analog remote programming is user-selectable 5V or 10V via DIP switches on the rear panel. In test systems, up to four power supplies may be connected in parallel with one-wire current-share control, or two may be connected in series.
