Lambda Announces New Quarter Brick DC-DC Converters With High & Flat Efficiency Curve
A new range of quarter-brick 100 to 200W isolated dc-dc converters, designed by TDK Innoveta, are now available from power specialist Lambda to meet the growing demand for high operating efficiencies over a wide range of load conditions.
Typical efficiencies of the new iQE series are 90% over a wide load range of 20 to 100% of the maximum rated current (flat for 80% of the power curve). With a broad range of available output voltages from 3.3 to 15Vdc the new iQE series includes models that operate from a nominal 24 or 48Vdc input, making them suitable for datacom, computer, telecom, industrial and wireless applications.
The single output iQE series are offered with two input voltage ranges, 18-36Vdc or 36-75Vdc. Available output voltages are 3.3, 5, 8, 12 or 15Vdc, each with a user-adjustment range of +/-10%. Throughout the single board construction, particular attention has been made to the overall thermal design including component height, location and orientation. This allows the use of thermal pads to conduct the heat to heatsinks or coldplates making the iQE family compatible with all cooling strategies, including conduction, convection and forced-air. The net result is claimed to be outstanding thermal performance and cooler operation; allowing the user to implement simpler and lower cost mechanical assemblies.
These converters feature a low component count coupled with advanced planar magnetics that are said to provide higher reliability and a more cost effective solution than many other modules on the market. The iQE power modules feature DOSA compatible footprint and trim, fixed frequency operation, and low output noise, providing a suitable solution for powering a broad range of applications including: distributed power architectures (DPS) and intermediate bus architectures (IBA), which in turn can power non-isolated point-of-load (POL) converters, FPGAs, ASICs and digital signal processors (DSP). Other applications include RF amplifiers and lasers.
Further, the input is fully isolated from the output (1500Vdc) which is said to add to the iQE’s versatility by allowing different output polarity and grounding options. Standard features include remote sense, remote on/off, and auto-recovery of input under-voltage, output overvoltage, overcurrent, and over temperature conditions.
iQE converters are approved to international safety standards including UL, CSA, EN, CE, IEC and VDE, making them simple for users to obtain regulatory approvals for equipment that incorporates them, especially when the end products will be located at multiple global locations.
The iQE series are available now with prices starting at $51.50 each in 100 piece quantities.
