KEMET Unveils A700 Series AO-CAP Capacitors

October 03, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

KEMET Corp. (Greenville, SC) announced the A700 Series AO-CAP surface-mount polymer-aluminum capacitors, which are targeted for power-management applications. They exhibit ultra-low ESR, high-capacitance retention for high performance at high operating frequencies, and no dry-out-related failure mechanism.

These lead-free devices also provide no-voltage de-rating at up to 125 degrees C. The A700 Series devices are housed in a molded case and are manufactured with wrap-around terminations. This design provides enhanced protection against cracks, making the devices suitable alternatives to high-capacitance ceramics.

The AO-CAP capacitors feature aluminum as an anode material, aluminum-oxide as a dielectric and a conductive organic polymer for its counter-electrode material. Their high-frequency performance enables reduced component count and board-space savings. They also offer high surge-current capability and long-term reliability. The operating temperature range is from -55 to +125 degrees C.
