ITT Develops High Voltage Power Input Connectors Rated For Operation From 230 to 630V

October 04, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

ITT Interconnect Solutions has developed a new family of power input connectors. Designated the CGL Series, the connectors are rated for operation from 230 to 630V, making them wel suited for power supply applications currently using MIL-C-5015 and VG95234 connectors, as these connector types are only approved for operating voltages of 50Vac if they are accessible during operation.

"In many commercial PSU applications, MIL-C-5015 and VG95234 connectors are being used at higher voltages than are approved by various standards bodies," said Keith Teichmann, Director of Marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions. "According to DIN EN 61984, a grounding conductor has to be terminated to metal parts that can carry the load in case of electrical defects. Moreover, the grounding conductor in the connector has to be terminated to a ’first-to-mate, last-to-break’ contact, which is conductively linked with the shell. The CGL Series power input connectors meet all of these requirements."

Conforming to European low voltage and EMC guidelines, the robust CGL Series connectors are fully shielded, sealed to IP67 standards and offer Pollution Degree 3 protection. Fully intermateable with other products based on MIL-C-5015, VG95234 and CA-B standards, the CGL Series power input connectors can be configured in 16 contact arrangements with contact counts ranging from three to 24. Contact termination ranges from 1.5 to 50mm squared. PG-threaded and metric gland options as well as universal backshells are also available.
